RUNAWAY FILMS
RUNAWAY FILMS WAS CO-FOUNDED
IN 1993 BY SCOTT BIRMINGHAM AND RON WALKER. THEIR FILMS HAVE
AIRED ON CABLE TELEVISION IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA VIA
COMMUNITY ACCESS CHANNELS, AND HAVE ALSO GONE ON TO RECEIVE
VARIOUS AWARDS IN A NUMBER OF FILM FESTIVALS.
Scott Birmingham
Scott BirminghamScott earned his C. A. in Broadcast Communication
Arts from Diablo Valley College and recently worked as a Morning
Editor/Video Coordinator at KTVN Channel 2 News (CBS) in Reno,
Nevada. He had been with the News station since 2002. In January,
2008 he joined KRNV
News 4 (NBC) as a News Editor.
He is actively involved in independent films and
film festivals, including serving as Executive
Director of DVC’s 2002 Film Festival and is currently
in his fourth year serving on the Board
of Directors for the Reno Film Festival. He also serves as the
Co-Chairperson for the Indie
Competition component of the film festival as well as being
a Co-Chair for the Programming
Committee of the festival.
He has garnered awards for his own contributions
in producing and directing independent films.
Among them from the American Film Institute, The Communicator
Awards, Berkeley Video &
Film Festival, The Videographer Awards and the Reno
Film Festival (2004).
Scott Produced, Hosted & Moderated "An
Evening with 2004 Academy Award Winner, Michael
Semanick". The event was held the same year in which
he received his award. Semanick won his
first Oscar in Sound Mixing for "Lord of the Rings:
Return of the King". He went on to receive
his second Oscar in 2006 for his Sound Mixing efforts on Peter
Jackson’s "King Kong". For

He has done numerous presentations on Filmmaking
both for high school and college levels in
Reno, NV and in the Bay Area. He has also made several television
appearances including
KTVN (CBS) "Face the State" with Bill Brown.
In addition to television, he has been a guest on
KUNR, a public radio station located at the University of Nevada
Reno with Willie Albright, and
"High Desert Forum" with host Dan Erwine
and Robin Holabird from the Nevada Film
Commissioners Office.
2005 November
- Scott moderated the inaugural 2005 Reno Film Festival Filmmaking
Panel
where he lead a discussion on filmmaking in the 21st Century
with a panel of Producers,
Directors and Actors, which included among others Film and Television
Actor, Patrick
Warburton (The Civilization of Maxwell Bright, Seinfeld).
2006 April
- Hosts and moderates a Question and Answer session with Film
and Television
Actress, Becca Gardner (An Unfinished Life, Grey’s
Anatomy) held in Carson City, NV.
2006 November
- Scott becomes a member of the Las
Vegas Film Critics Society - a circle of
critics who are included in ranking top films for the year.
2007 April
– He is featured as one of several local filmmakers in
an issue of the Reno based
magazine, Rlife.
2007 May
- Over a three-day period he moderates and he hosts a number
of film screenings
featuring Questions and Answers. He also conducts the 2nd Annual
Filmmaking Panel. Scott
introduces to the Reno Film Festival an Actors Panel featuring
among other guests David
Krumholtz (Numb3rs, Santa Clause 2) and Ernie Hudson
(The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,
Ghostbusters).
2008 April
- Scott introduces and moderates a Q & A with Producer/Director,
George Gallo
(Midnight Run, Bad Boys II) at the Nevada Museum of
Art for his Independent feature film,
"Local Color".
Also in April he is invited to introduce and lead
a discussion on the Independent film, "I’m Not
There" as part of an Arthouse Film Series at the University
of Nevada – Reno campus.
2008 May
- Moderates an Actors Panel for the Reno Film Festival featuring
Dean Jones (The
Love Bug, Blackbeard’s Ghost), Dee Wallace (E.T.),
and Casting Director Toni Suttie.
Also in May he is invited among several others to be honored
for their contribution in the
Entertainment and Theatre Arts field. He is also asked to take
part in the Theater Dedication and
to Host the Gala Dinner presented by the Antioch Historical
Society in their recognition of its
Hollywood Connection.
Scott currently submits film reviews and articles
to both www.reelfans.com
and www.iesb.net
(2 million unique visitors monthly), and continues to do one-day
Filmmaking Workshops at
Truckee Meadows Community College.
